About

I'm Ali Jeffries, an artist, author and former parent-carer who knows how easy it is to spend so much time looking after everyone else that you forget what it feels like to have space for yourself. I wrote *Dear Parent Carer — Things I Know Now I Wish I Knew Then* to share some of what I learnt along the way. That same understanding now finds its way into my art. Through Project Shifting Atmospheres, I explore how the spaces around us affect how we feel. Using intricately layered paper, light, reflection and colour, I create artwork designed to bring moments of calm, connection and wonder into the places where we live, work, rest and care for others. I'm particularly interested in spaces that support carers, but I believe we all need somewhere to pause, breathe and feel a little more human. For me, it's about more than making something beautiful. It's about what beauty can do for the people who encounter it.

Where the Light Finds You was created to explore the feeling of being immersed in nature, where light, colour and reflections invite us to pause and lose ourselves for a moment. The piece reflects my belief that we all need spaces that offer a little breathing room, a chance to reconnect and simply be. Created as a 4 × 6 ft folding screen, it was exhibited at the Derbyshire Life Home & Gift Show in September 2026. This piece marks an important step in my exploration of how art can reach beyond the wall and change the way we experience a space.

Materials & techniques: My work begins with paper but extends into reflective surfaces and unexpected materials, using hand-cutting, layering, texture and shadow to recreate the feeling of natural environments.

This was a commission for a Koi lovers 80th. I adore Japanese art in all forms so this was a joy to create.

I was sat at the table arting when my son said - I need something of yours for my wall, so this was the remedy - it just kinda kept on growing. It was so fun pulling in all the things he loves and adding just a little fantasy twist - this is also a shout out to one of the all time best pieces of BBC drama 'Vincent & The Dr'
